Objects & Purpose

  • To promote India as a maritime country, and to promote and advocate the advancement of Indian maritime interests both within India and globally;

  • To participate and assist in drafting maritime and admiralty statutes , rules and regulations , and participate in committees and other bodies in this behalf;

  • To encourage the study and development of Indian maritime and mercantile laws as also their uniform implementation all over India;

  • To organize and put forward a united front to safeguard and protect Indian maritime interests from any threat from whatsoever source and to take all steps and measures necessary for the furtherance of the objects of the company;

  • To promote and facilitate the dynamic interaction and collaboration with other national , foreign , multilateral organizations , etc. for the development and unification of maritime and mercantile law and practice of different jurisdictions and regimes ;

  • To ensure representation of the society on public, governmental, non-governmental bodies, federations, conferences, committees etc. whether regional, national or international;

  • To act as a watchdog and take such action as necessary with regard to any contemplated legislation or international convention that may affect the interest of Indian shipping or maritime law in general;

  • To collect , prepare and disseminate statistical information and to publish periodicals , bulletins or magazines covering such information and / or on subjects relating to maritime and mercantile law;

  • To associate with international organizations with similar objectives including committee maritime international;

  • To do such other lawful things as are incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the above objects or of any of them;

  • To make and enforce rules and bylaws from time to time, to repeal , amend or alter the same ,for the purpose of the society's objects.
